At Riverview we place a high value on life-change and friendships lived out among a smaller group of people. We have found that applying biblical principles in our lives work out best among developing relationships. We all need friendships on which we can depend and can be depended upon. It is this environment of healthy and genuine relationships that encourage us in our understanding of God, our spiritual walk, and our growth as individuals.
These smaller groups of people come together and begin to relationally connect through common interests, life stages, compatible personalities and cultures, and life experiences. They may include a Bible Study, learning or exploring various interests, prayer, or just having fun together. Some groups may last a short time or season, ands some may last for many years. The types of groups vary - just like the people who call Riverview their home are different. Each group determines when and how it meets, and is able to meet the needs of its members by what it does or what it studies.
Getting involved in a smaller group of people can be accomplished in several ways:
What is RivLink?
RivLink is an event where people meet and connect with others in their area or stage of life to start a small group. These events take place 4 times a year (Feb 24, Apr 27, Aug 24, Oct 19). We believe that a small group provides the best environment for on-going life change through solid relationships, prayer, studying God’s Word, and discussing the important issues and challenges in life. It’s a place where people care for each other and are missed if they don’t show up. By the end of RivLink, you will have the opportunity to be in a group.
What happens when I attend a RivLink?
You will make a name tag, grab some refreshments, and get to know others. After a short Welcome and introduction about small groups, you will have the opportunity to form Starter Groups that have a set curriculum for an 8-week period.
How are the StarterGroups formed?
They can be formed around location, life stage, or interests.
What is the commitment?
We are asking for an eight-week commitment with your Starter Group. After that time, you have the option of continuing on as a Community Group, disband, or find a group that is a better fit for you by attending another RivLink.
How many people will be in my group?
A Starter Group will have between 8-12 people. The groups will be closed to new members during the 8-week period, unless the group agrees to expand during that time.
Who will lead/facilitate the group?
Each group will need a facilitator – who will help the group determine when and where it will meet, organize purchasing the curriculum for the group, and facilitate the meetings.
Who will help our group get started?
Each group will be assigned a coach who will help you get started, check-in with you during the eight weeks, answer any questions you might have, and also help you make the transition into a community group.
What is a Community Group?
A Community Group is the next phase of a Starter Group – when the group has chosen to continue and has a designated leader. Community Groups will meet for 18-24 months with a group agreement and then be encouraged to multiply. The Community Groups will have a choice of curriculums that best meet the needs of that group, and a coach who will mentor and help that group be successful.
What if I can’t find a group that I want?
You can start a group with your interests, or try to connect through our mid-size groups. Contact Paul if you need some assistance.
What curriculum will we use?
Each group will be provided one book and DVD for the required curriculum “Community – Your Pathway To Progress”. The group facilitators will be provided the information to order books for the groups.
